Missionvale Caregivers Training

Missionvale Caregivers Training

The Epilepsy Foundation Middle & West Tennessee hosted a caregivers training seminar with our friends at the Ford Straundale Engine Plant in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on October 28, 2015. The seminar was coordinated by Ben Worthington, the Epilepsy Foundation Board of Directors’ international liaison and board member for Missionvale USA, Ford Personnel Management’s Wellness Committee leaders Serano Vardy and Ivy Appolis, and Joyce Whitmer, executive director of the Epilepsy Foundation Middle & West Tennessee.

Susan Holloway of the Epilepsy Foundation began the seminar by speaking about epilepsy and seizure first aid and recognition. Dr. Sally Mathias, a fellow at Vanderbilt Hospital’s Neurology Department, talked about epilepsy treatments and answered questions from the audience. Gwen Hamer and Dr. Wes Geminn of the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services then spoke about schizophrenia and fielded questions.

Thank you to all of our coordinators and presenters for joining us and helping us to continue our mission to increase awareness about epilepsy! Read more about Ben Worthington’s work with Missionvale.
